There really haven’t been made many surveys in the past. Though, ones that were carried out shown various results. Surveys differed mainly in the numbers of participants. Below we will take a look at them and show the results obtained.
A study published by Journal of Urology (1996) concluded the average length during erection to be 12.9 cm (5.08 in). The study was performed on 80 physically normal American men varying in ethnicity and age (average age was 54 years).
Another study made in December 2000 made on 50 Jewish Caucasian men found an average erect length to be 13.6 cm (5.35 in). Average age of participants was 47±14 years.
A review published in 2007 issue of BJU International has shown that average erect penis length is 14–16 cm and its girth is 12–13 cm. This paper compared results of twelve studies conducted on different populations in several countries.
Famous study conducted by LifeStyles Condoms shown the erect length of 5.877 inches (14.928cm). Standard deviation was 0.825 inches (2.096cm) with 54% of the effective sample measuring between 5.5 inches (14cm) and 6.3 inches (16cm). There were 401 student participants (average age unknown) and it was made to ensure the distribution of properly sized condoms. The average erect penis girth was 4.972 inches (12.63cm). Standard deviation was 0.508 inches (1.29cm) or with 53.33% of the effective sample measuring between 4.725 inches (12cm) and 5.118 inches (13cm).
Another study found on the internet (source unknown) shows slightly larger size to be average.

A survey made among women shows quite shocking results. According to this survey women prefer penises of length between 7 and 8 inches with girth of 6 and 1/4 inch. According to this study most of the men do not have a penis of sufficient length nor girth (when compared to results above).
One of the most recent surveys made by SizeGenetics shows the average length to be a slightly higher than in the previous studies.

A study performed in different ethnicities shows that African-American men have the largest penises, followed by Caucasian ethnicity while men of Asian ethnicity have globally the smallest penises.
Since there are quite few studies and penis size surveys showing slightly different results we have estimated the average penis length to be somewhere between the interval of 5.7 and 6.6 inches.
